Born in Hillegom, the midst of Holland's flower district as son of a local butcher, Dirk Haster choose photography for all the beauty around him. Finding tutorship on the Amsterdam Gerrit Rietveld Academy by known photographers as Hans Versnel, Kees Heemskerk and Piet Groot, Dirk Haster especially explored the audiovisual field such as slideshow's, video's and films for business, television and cinema.
Resulting in numerous documentaries and short films, shortlisted in:
-1981: 'AV in Noord-Holland' (Audio Visuals in Northern Holland) a 50 minute documentary about Audio Visuals in education.
-1984: 'Alles in één doos' (All in one box) computers in education and libraries.
-1985 VPRO: 'De Tovenaarsleerling' (The Sorcerers Pupil)
Children touched by the magic of classical music. In co-production with Added Films Dirk Schreiner and directed by Marion Bloem.
-1989 NOS: 'Filmfabriek Hollandia' (Hollandia Film factory)
Maurits Binger's first industrial filmmaking in Holland from 1910 to 1923, directed by Guy Molin after Gerard Soeteman's scenery, Jakob Klaassen and Lin Friedman signed for music and editing.
-1992: 'Haarlemmerhout, Natuur Verzuurd' (Haarlem Woods Soured Nature), after the decline of a 400 years historical city forest.
The ninety's brought all audiovisual arts together in a wide variety of multimedia programs, web sites and other applications.
-1998: 'Tiefstack Hamburg' (Energy Hamburg) Company profile for the electric powerstation of the city of Hamburg.
-2002: 'Het Goochelkabinet' (The Magicians Cabinet) film and graphics combined for the famous Teylers Museum as a Touch Screen application. The Magicians Cabinet is a set of 17th century magician tools recently acquired by Teylers Museum's collections. The Touch Screen sets them in motion as magical experiences.
-2006: In co-operation with Maria van Vlijmen and Gonda Koster, Dirk Haster completes his first book Haarlemse Huiskamers, café's people and their stories about café's as extensions to the living room.
-2007: At the moment Dirk Haster works on a book about Simón Bolívar the famous South American Liberator who still has his echo's in today's South America.
